本片源自2004年導(dǎo)演辛．艾利斯的一齣同名短片，這亦是他的首部長(zhǎng)篇電影。而短片曾獲提名第78屆奧斯卡「最佳短片」。
藝術(shù)學(xué)院學(xué)生本（肖恩?比格斯代夫 Sean Biggerstaff 飾 ）在被女友蘇芝甩了之后，夜夜無(wú)法入睡。在經(jīng)歷了兩周的不眠之夜后，本決定到超市去上夜班以打發(fā)這額外的8小時(shí)。
在超市上夜班，本遇到了形形色色的人，包括喜歡惡搞的同事巴里和馬特、超級(jí)迷戀中國(guó)功夫的布萊恩，還有收銀員莎倫（艾米麗雅??？怂?Emilia Fox 飾）。在這里，本發(fā)現(xiàn)了自己有能停止時(shí)間的能力。他一次次在上夜班時(shí)停止時(shí)間，用自己的畫(huà)筆去描繪各式女子。
不知不覺(jué)間，本發(fā)現(xiàn)自己喜歡上了莎倫，并且不再失眠。就在本準(zhǔn)備展開(kāi)愛(ài)情攻勢(shì)的時(shí)候，誤會(huì)一個(gè)個(gè)接踵而至，本又開(kāi)始失眠了
